Casa de Velazquez Residency
During a year-long residency at Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, I developed an interconnected body of site-responsive sculptures and installations drawing from the site’s architecture and gardens, local plants, historical costumes, regional food traditions, and overlooked local histories. Through wood carving, casting, latex, water, and sound, these references gradually merge into hybrid sculptural forms that blur the boundaries between organism, ornament, architecture, and instrument.
Épines de l’amour
Drawing on the love rituals of San Antonio de la Florida, the work explores how popular customs are continually reinvented, circulated and transformed into new traditions.
Délicieuses Épines
A fountain of hybrid forms that plays with the fabrication of tradition, where popular imagery, desire and contemporary marketing become strangely entangled.
Les Gregüescos
Drawing on historical Spanish gregüescos and the story of cardon brought from Mexico for a Spanish world exposition, the work intertwines displaced plants, clothing and bodies.
